With the advancements in technology, we are seeing more and more examples of small machines with amazing technological equipment, such as drones.
While these machines have amazing capabilities, their use is still limited to quite an extent due to the lack of equally smaller and efficient power sources.
Now, a company called LiquidPiston could remove this limitation through their brand new rotary engine, which can produce immense amounts of power, despite it’s small size.
This engine is similar to the Wankel engine, but reverses the mechanics involved to increase efficiency and maximize power-to-weight ratio.
This unique Pistonless setup of the engine allows it to perform three combustion events per revolution, which gives it a high power density.
The company has already tested these claims by putting this engine into a regular gokart. Now they aim to develop it further so that it’s future iterations could be used for more complex machines.
Even though it will take a lot of time and effort, it will still bring us closer to a world where complex drones can easily power themselves with this motor, without losing the weight advantage.
