As technology gets more sophisticated with each passing year, car companies get more bolder and innovative in terms of tweaking engines to get more performance and efficiency.
Following this trend, Chinese carmaker Qoros has just revealed a Camless Engine that delivers more power and fuel efficiency than regular engines.
This engine, was developed in collaboration with FreeValve AB, a sister company of the supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg, and features Electro-Hydraulic-Pneumatic Actuators, which provide greater control over the engine’s intake and exhaust valves.
In testing, this engine provided more power as well as a 12-17% increase in fuel efficiency when compared to regular internal combustion engines which use camshafts for valve control.
The technology is currently being tested to make sure that it can maintain it’s advantages while still adhering to the emission norms set by different countries.
If and when it does get into the production stage, we can expect it to usher in a whole new era in automotive engineering.
