When it comes to nutrition, researchers are always looking for the next best thing, which will help feed the needs of millions of people worldwide.
The need for this constant research is the fact that the growing worldwide population keeps increasing the pressure on the food industry, and we currently don’t have a food resource that can meet this need while still being cheap.
Towards this end, researchers from the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India have found a new source of protein, that will possibly be the base of future Superfoods.
This new revolutionary source of protein is Cockroach Milk. While this may not be the first, or even the last thing that pops up in your head when you think about nutrition, there is a very smart reason for this choice.
This reason comes in the form of a very special Protein Crystal found in this milk, which is more than four times as nutritious as cow’s milk.
Not only that, this milk also has a time release factor, which releases more protein once the initial protein content in the milk is digested.
In order to take advantage of these benefits, and to avoid having to milk a cockroach, the scientists have spent quite some time sequencing the genes responsible for producing these special crystals.
Their goal is to replicate this production process under laboratory conditions, so that the milk can be manufactured on a large scale to meet the needs of the millions of people that go hungry every day.
We do not yet know how long it will take for this vision to become a reality, but whenever it does, it will surely become a very odd staple of the nutrition industry.
