A new report from Ming-Chi Kou of KGI Securities has revealed some new and exciting features about the upcoming Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The reason why this report is so exciting is because Kuo has one of the most consistent track record when it comes to rumors about Apple products.
His predictions have always been the closest to the mark, which gives this new report such credibility, even if it was released so close to the launch.
While there is a lot of information in the report, for this article we still stick to the ones that we knew were on their way.
Faster Processor & More RAM
With every launch, Apple sets and achieves the goal of improving the performance of it’s devices by at least a factor of two. This seems to be true for the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as well, since they are getting a big performance boost with the new Apple A10 Processor.
While there isn’t any benchmark to test this claim against yet, the speculation is that the new phones will be able to get 2.4Ghz of processing power with ease.
To make sure that the phone is able to handle this processing power with ease, Apple is also expected to include 2GB RAM on the iPhone 7 and 3GB RAM on the iPhone 7 Plus. This is definitely a huge boost considering the infamous reluctance of Apple to increasing RAM in their phones.
The camera setup in both phones is getting a big upgrade. The iPhone 7 camera is expected to get a incremental upgrade along with a new flash for better True Tone flash performance.
To accomplish this, they are replacing the two LED system with a new Four LED Flash that will comprise of two warm and two cool LEDS for better photo exposure.
This is quite a nice touch, and is consistent with the direction Apple seems to be taking with their photography. But while the smaller siblings gets just this improvement, the bigger one gets a whole lot more.
These big upgrades start with the confirmation of a Dual Camera System exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus. This might not be as big of a surprise, since it was already leaked in various reports online.
But what makes this setup so special is the fact that it comes with a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens that can work together to produce superior photographs.
What this means is that from now on, iPhone users will get the option to use optical zoom as well as several light field camera applications.
These applications will include the ability to pick focus points after you take a picture. The larger of the lenses will also get Optical Image Stabilization and a 6P Lens.
No Headphone Jack in iPhone
One of the most controversial moves that Apple is expected to make with this launch is the removal of the headphone jack in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Instead, the space will be taken up by a secondary speaker.
Thankfully, even with the removal of the jack, the users won’t be left without options, as Apple is expected to include Lightning EarPods and a Lighting to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter along with both the iPhone’s.
The addition of a second speaker is not the only music upgrade planned for the new iPhone’s, as Apple seems to have decided to include a new Amplifier along with the dual speaker setup.
This will certainly help improve the overall performance of the phone’s even without the use of Lightning EarPods.
Force Touch Upgrades
In addition to music, the removal of the headphone jack is also being considered a blessing in disguise for the Force Touch system. With a lot of space being left empty thanks to the removal of the jack, Apple is expected to use it for expanding the use of it’s Force Touch system.
It still isn’t confirmed though whether this additional upgrade will improve the existing touch interface, or add new functionalities to the Home Button. Whatever they choose will certainly be an improvement over the existing system.
Waterproof iPhone 7
While the above mentioned benefits are certainly appreciated, but easily the biggest benefit of the removal of the headphone jack is the arrival of the IPX7 Rating for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
What this means is that the next generation of Apple phones will be waterproof. This move is an obvious follow up of the IPX7 rating for the Apple Watch.
Now that it seems to be here, both the iPhone and the Watch will have the ability of survival being submerged in 1 meter of water for upto 30 minutes at a time.
iPhone 7 Screen Upgrade
This is easily one of the most underwhelming upgrade for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The reason being that both phones will feature the same size and resolution as the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
However, the screen will still be a bit different from their predecessors, as Apple is incorporating the True Tone Display Technology from the iPad Pro 9.7. This addition will help provide a better color display and environment tracking and compensation for the users.
iPhone 7 Storage Options
Thankfully, Apple has been listening to the pleas of it’s customer regarding more storage on the base model, as now you will be able to get 32GB storage at the base level.
However, along with the 16GB option, Apple is also removing the 64GB option as well. jumping straight to 128GB or 256GB storage options for iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.
This change will not only assuage the storage problems of people who buy base models of the iPhone, but also those who don’t like the lack of SD card support in Apple phones.
New iPhone 7 Design
As is expected with every consecutive upgrade, Apple has again tweaked the design of the iPhone to a certain degree, so that they feel new.
This year’s tweaks come in the form of two new colors, a new Piano Black and a new Dark Black. To make sure you get the full body impact of these colors, the Antenna Line’s also have been moved to the upper and lower extremes of the phone.
These changes give the back of the iPhone a sort of naked look, which reminds you of the early days of the iPod Touch, atleast from some angles.
As you can see, there are a lot of new things coming to the iPhone this year. Some you may like, while others not so much. But no matter what side of the spectrum you may be on, it is always an exciting time as we look forward to new products from Apple.
